Overview: Students spent a total of three week exploring the the American Colonists and their fight for independence. I began this unit by contorting a situation that allowed students to experience a similar injustice as the American Colonists. This sparked their interest and built a personal connection between themselves and the colonists. We first explored the keys events that led the American Colonists breaking ties with the British in order to establish their independence. The students learned how the actions of the British drove the American Colonists to fight for their freedom, and what freedom meant to them. Next, students learned about six important battles of the Revolutionary War. By the end, students could summarize the American Colonists fight for independence.
